Samuel Havermale was born on 15 Oct. 1824 in Sharpsburg, Md. Over the next twenty years his family moved westward, first to Ohio, then Illinois, where, in 1849, he was licensed as a minister in the Methodist Church. In Sept. 1873, Havermale was transferred to the Columbia River conference and assigned the pastorate in Walla Walla, Washington Territory. The following year he was made presiding elder, and his duties called him to all parts of eastern Washington, Oregon, and parts of Idaho. In Nov....
